So is this the end for Cultivator? We remain hopeful that we’ll be able to secure funding to carry on for another few years. In the coming months, we should find out if our funding applications have been successful. Until then, we’re keeping our fingers crossed! So here’s what we’ve got planned.
Design Frontier: Open | 3rd July
Design Frontier: Open is an opportunity for you to meet your local design community in their studios. Starting with just one of Cornwall’s many creative communities, Penryn, we have 18 studios opening their doors at different times on this day – locations include Jubilee Warehouse, Jubilee Wharf, Argal Home Farm, Higher Spargo Farm and Grays Wharf. You will explore, map & discover the sometimes hidden creative clusters of designer studios, from lighting designers to illustrators, animators to furniture makers. A group of new BA Graphic Design graduates from Falmouth University will also showcase their work at Grays Wharf (more information below).
The day will give you unique insight into the designers’ work and their process. You are also invited to join our evening event – with a tour around Grays Wharf studios, the graduate exhibition and talks and discussions with speakers including the founder of Design Collective Chichester, Furniture designer and Design Writer Alys Bryan. You can be part of the conversation on the value of collaborations, co-working and collectives.
Performance Open House | 3rd July
Cultivator presents a sneak peek of pioneering Cornish performance at the Butter Market, Redruth to a unique audience from across the diverse landscape of Cornish performance.
Join us in celebrating the delightful, eclectic mix of theatre, music, dance, comedy and spoken word that makes up the Cornish performance scene. Enjoy the warm embrace of the ever-reliable Cornish sunshine with friends and colleagues for what promises to be an evening of exciting new work, delicious street food and joie de vivre.
Details of the full bill can be found on the booking page.
From A to B, via C | 5th & 6th July
Starting Friday evening 6pm, we’re opening an exhibition across Back Lane West, CMR and Auction House, in Redruth, showing work from a selection of artists who have developed their practice with support from the programme.
An artist’s work is one that requires changes, progressions, and sometimes revisiting ideas you have previously discarded. It never is as straight forward as going from A to B. New skills and ways of thinking are constantly employed to expand and re-focus an artist’s practice. In this exhibition, you will see work by artists who have adapted to new media and processes they have never used before – be it film making, ceramics or printmaking, as well as artists who are pushing the boundaries of the material they already use.
